Blythe's Snowy Day Cowl
Blythe is my nephew’s wife. I had her name in the family Christmas gift draw and I made her a cowl. Each year after Christmas much of my family comes to Vermont to ski, sled and hike in the snow. This year we were blessed with lots of snow (and not so blessed with below zero temperatures….) so a snowy cowl was perfect for the weather. She was quite happy with the result. Me too! I chose two different snow motifs, a Scandinavian Traditional half flake and my own all over snow design. Together they make a blizzard of warmth…
Cascade 220 Merino Superwash makes for a lovely, soft and warm cowl that is worked in the round. Applied Icord edging is optional (see top right photo above), but gives a nice finished look and makes the cowl “stand up” beautifully. Needles are slightly smaller than normally used for the weight, but I like the fabric to be a bit tighter than normal. A US size 7 or 8 needle is fine for a less dense fabric, a US size 4 or 5 for a tighter fabric. Cowl shown in photos is NO TWIST.
