Boddingtons
Boddingtons is a sweet little vest with a decidedly collegiate vibe. The cable motif on this one features a series of rope cables, offset from one another to highlight the thick and thin nature of each twist. I love the symmetry within each rope, and how it then looks a little assymetrical placed together this way!
The panels are centered on front and back of the vest, and I used one more set of simple cables to transition from the panel detail to the stockinette body. This softer edge reinforces the round, squishy feel of the design perfectly.
For a overall silhouette, I kept the body somewhat short and worked the hem on a smaller needle size for a little negative ease at the waist. A higher crew neck and simple ribbing at armhole and collar keep the focus on the cables and the beautiful yarn.
One of the things I love the most about this business is collaborating with friends around the globe! It’s been a couple of years since I’ve had a design with UK-based Eden Cottage Yarns, and this Pendle DK is just as gorgeous as I remember!
This lightly variegated cream shade I used is Stone. You will see it on the website as Stone or Driftwood. It’s got a subtle sheen to it, with highlights of soft sand and latte shades in there. The fiber is a superwash merino, so it’s soft and bouncy and lovely on the needles!
Due to Republican tariffs, US customers may not be able to get the Pendle DK, so Magpie Fibers Quartet Worsted is a great substitute - and another yarn company I absolutely love to support.
Boddingtons is knit in the round from the bottom up, and separated into front and back pieces at armholes. These pieces are worked flat to shoulders and seamed before ribbing is worked in the round at armhole and collar. Shoulders are shaped with short rows and lots of notes are included in the pattern on how and where to customize this design for a more personal fit. Cables are both charted and written out.

A bouncy, round wool in a heavy DK or worsted weight will show off the plump curves of these cables best. This design is perfect for a SW merino that knits to gauge in a colorway that allows the detail in the cables to show up.
