Bombus Occidentals
This is one of 11 planned designs coming out before the end of 2022, all using Karin’s fantastic yarns in celebration of The Periwinkle Sheep’s 20th Anniversary.
Bombus Occidentals is named for Bombus occidentalis also known ss the western bumble bee which native to my region of the USA. It was at one time, one of the most common bumblebees and is sadly decline (>40%). There are approximately 250 species of Bombus (bumble bees) in the world, 45 species in North America and approximately 26 in California alone.
These are the fingerless mitts or mitten liners to go with their companion pattern, Forest Bumble mittens. Californian has several bees that are a yellow orange combination. For the set Karin has 2 yarns that pair beautifully together Copper Pipe (heavier weight) and Gold Rush (lighter weight).
Depending on the size made you should be able to get 2 pairs of Bombus Occidentals from one skein. They have a nice stretchy texture in their ribbing, this helps when gifting if you don’t know the recipients hand size.
