Boston Bog was designed in Wing and A Prayer Farm’s All the Single Ladies to celebrate the New England Farm and Fiber Festival, happening in downtown Boston on Feb 2, 2025.

This deeply cabled hat takes advantage of the gorgeous heather and bounce in this shetland yarn, which shows off a cable beautifully! These cables are deeply crossed, which gives the hat a snug fit when worn, and makes for some dramatic lines. I love the balance of thick and thin elements in this motif.

I’ve created a aimple brim here, using the ribbing to set up stitches for the cables above. This section can be knit deeper if desired, but I wanted to keep the focus on the cables this time, so I kept it somewhat narrow.

The crown on Boston Bog is a bit less rounded than usual, with a touch of extra room at top for a modern shape that flows right out of the last cable cross. You can pull the hat snug on your head to minimize this - or wear it a bit higher on your head to show off a taller crown at top.

Notes are in the pattern for adjusting the sizing on this hat. You can tweak circumference or depth in a few ways. Cable instructions are both charted and written out.

The color of the yarn shown is Rose Mallow (but note that hand-dyed yarn may vary from skein to skein.)
