Botanic Socks
This pattern is the June sock in my Westknits Year of Socks e-book. This pattern is available exclusively as part of the Westknits Year of Socks 2025 e-book. You will receive a new sock pattern update at the beginning of each month until all 12 socks are released by December 2025. The sock patterns will be available to purchase individually in 2026.
These top-down socks are inspired by one of my first Westknits designs called Botanic Hat. Begin with the ribbed cuff followed by stripes and slip stitches on the leg. You only work with one color a time while working the simple slip stitch pattern. The top of the foot is knit flat with the same slip stitch columns. Then, the heel flap and heel turn are worked in a pop of color. The gusset and sole of the sock are knitted flat in stockinette stitch while being seamlessly attached to the top foot fabric. This modular construction creates a bold color blocked design and highlights Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Crazy self-striping sock yarn. Combine one self-striping sock yarn with a solid main color for these sleek and stripetastic socks.
Sizes:
1 (2, 3, 4, 5)
Finished Measurements:
6 (7.5, 9, 10.5, 12)″ / 15 (19, 23, 27, 30)cm leg and foot circumference. Measurements taken after blocking.
Size 3 shown on a size US 13 / EU 47 size foot that has a 10.5″ / 27cm foot circumference. The sock fits with 1.5″ / 4cm of negative ease.
Socks are designed to fit an actual foot circumference of 7 (8.5, 10, 11.5, 13)″ / 18 (22, 25, 29, 33)cm. The socks are designed to fit with negative ease. Choose a size with a finished foot circumference measurement that is approximately 1″ / 2.5cm smaller than your actual foot circumference, so that the sock will fit nice and snug on your foot. The lengths of the cuff, leg, and foot are easily customizable by knitting more pattern repeats for a longer leg or foot or fewer pattern repeats for a shorter leg or foot.
The lengths of the cuff and foot are easily customizable.
