Choose a size with a circumference about
1 inch/2.5 cm smaller than your actual foot circumference, measured around the ball of your foot.

Have you heard of the Princess Sole? Some knitters like to work their socks so that the sole is worn knit-side on the inside, for comfort underfoot. This is an entire Princess Sock. Worked with the knit side facing, for speed and ease, but designed to be worn with the purl side out, for maximum comfort. Or not.
The heel flap and turn are worked with a reinforcement pattern, arranged so that the floats from the slipped stitches lie on the knit side of the sock. If you choose to wear them knit side out, the pattern is rather fetching and unusual. And the gusset stitches are worked up as a pick-up-and-purl. This has a rather pleasing effect: if worn purl side out, the ridge is hidden, if worn knit side out, the ridge looks like a knit column, aligned with the reinforcement pattern.
This design features some of my favourite details:
• a Dutch (a.k.a. square) heel turn, that allows you to work reinforcement on the back of the heel and continue it down into the heel turn.
• a no-graft toe
• a simple but very effective pattern stitch that works well worn either way
