According to the Book of Fair Isle Knitting:

“The patterns and colors for the boy’s set were drawn from the girst sight a Shetlander sees after the 14-hour sea passage from Lerwick to Aberdeen: Oil-rig supply vessels in Aberdeen harbor.”

The cardigan uses traditional Fair Isle techniques to make a boys cardigan in blue and browns. The sweater includes ribbed cuffs and steeks.

In The Fair Isle Knitting Handbook the boys and girls cardigan sets are both listed together as ‘Child’s Cardigan Set’.
