DESIGN: BJÖRG PJETURSDÓTTIR

COLOURING BOOK
Included in this pattern is a colouring book for the design BP 06 RENDUR balaclava. Children can visualise their wishes for the look of their BP 02 balaclava. The colouring book allows the knitters, the creator’s creativity to be free and play with colours, surfaces, stripes.

METHOD
The balaclava is partly knitted in the round and partly knit- ted flat, alternately from the right or the wrong side. Sts are picked up along the edge of the hat; the collar is worked from these sts. Knit stitches and purl stitches become a pattern when increases are made on the collar. The two biggest sizes are designed as loose hoods for youths and are therefore bigger and looser than the balaclavas in the smaller sizes. A loose cast on is necessary in order to avoid the hat being too tight.

I have admired Björg Pjetursdóttir’s project RENDUR for a long time. She designed a series of patterns with the purpose to make use of leftover yarns.

I became captivated by these handmade, colourful garments, and in 2016 the dream of presenting Björgs patterns in einrúm yarn came true for me. We began working on the project of implementing and adjusting the patterns to the einrúm yarn and giving a hint on how one might use leftover yarn. The patterns allow the creator’s creativity to be free and play with colours, surfaces, stripes.
