The Braided Bonsai, often referred to as a money tree, is also a mainstay in feng shui. Feng shui practitioners believe that the Braided Bonsai creates positive energy for any room that it is placed in. According to this belief, you should place your money tree in the “financial” part of your home or office. Each new leaf of the tree will then bring added financial blessing and success. I wanted to design a sock pattern with a simple cable. The gentle cables in this pattern create the look of the Bonsai tree that always accented my In-laws family room. Now these socks remind me of times ago when we all gathered around that same family room.

This pattern is cuff-down.

The pattern is written for DPNs referring to Needles 1-4. You can accommodate it for Magic Loop or 2 circulars.

NOTIONS: Stitch marker (Optional), tapestry needle for weaving ends. Cable needle.

PATTERN STYLE: The pattern contains written as well as chart instructions. There is a key and full abbreviation list included as well.

DIFFICULTY: Intermediate, requires the use of a cable needle and the twisted stitch can be a bit fiddly.

YARN: This pattern is better suited for solid or lightly tonal yarn to show off the detail of the mock cables. They may get lost in a heavy variegated yarn, but a subtle variegation should be okay.
