Braided Cable Hood Balaclava
First used in the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War of 1854, the “balaclava” is a knitted head covering designed to keep the head and neck warm with partial face exposure.
This Braided Cable Hood is the essence of versatility! It can quickly be changed to be worn as:
- Hood with eye opening
- Hood with eye, nose, mouth opening
- Cowl
- Hat
The easy one-piece seamless construction is worked in the round from the bottom up to the eye opening. After working the eye opening flat in rows, the piece is completed in the round with integrated crown deceases to the top.
The eye opening is trimmed with a bound off I-cord which stretches to allow the hood to be pulled down around the neck to be worn as a cowl.
To wear as a hat, the bottom half of the piece is folded to the inside (the eye opening is exposed at the back of the hat).
Special COVID Mask Incorporation Features
While the balaclava’s knitted accessory provides NO air filtering protection itself, it can be utilized as a covering for an air filtering insert when a mesh pocket is included on the interior.
When the mesh pocket and HEPA or cloth filter is included, the hood can easily be pulled down or up over the mouth and nose as needed.
Alternately, the hood can simply be worn over any mask for a warm, stylish look!
