About this pattern:
This fun and feminine hat, designed to match the Braids and Berries Cowl, gets its name from its lateral cable braid and because the bobbles look at bit like berries! It comes in two variations: Hat A is knit all in one colour, and has an optional tassel. Hat B has picot edging with a peekaboo turned contrast hem, a lateral braid knit in contrast colour, and contrast bobbles. Make one, or make both!

Final Dimensions:
Circumference of the unstretched brim = 21” (23”) | 53 (58) cm to fit head circumference 21”- 22” (23”- 24”) | 53 – 56 (58 – 61) cm. Height is 10 ½” | 27 cm.

Yarn:
Malabrigo Mecha: bulky weight, 100% superwash merino wool; (100 g); 130 yards (119 metres).

Yardage:
Approx. 115 g (150 yds | 140 m) of Malabrigo Mecha (Dewberry, Hat A) for the smaller size. For Hat B, approx. 100g (130 yds | 119 m) of main colour (Polar Morn, Hat B) and 15 g (20 yds | 18 m) of contrast colour (Natural, Hat B). Expect to use about 10% more yarn if you make the larger size.

Gauge:
13 sts | 4” in stockinette using 6 mm (US 9) needles. If using Mecha, which can knit up anywhere between an aran and a bulky weight, depending on the skein, please check gauge.

Skill Level:
This pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter who is familiar with basic increases and decreases, cables, provisional cast-on, turned picot hem and stranded colourwork (if making Hat B). Links to helpful videos are provided in the pattern.

Pattern Notes:
This hat is knit from the bottom-up, in-the-round, with a turned picot hem in a contrast colour or k1p1 brim. A lateral braid is followed by 4 stitch k1p1k1p1 bobbles. Links to video tutorials are provided within the pattern.

A Note About Needle Sizes:
I understand that it may be hard to get 6.5 mm needle tips in Europe, so for my European friends, please use your 7 mm needle tips when directed to use 6.5 mm needles.
