This fun and easy pattern looks a lot more complicated than it actually is; strategically placed knit and purl stitches torque and pull the stockinette columns this way and that, simulating traveling cables.

Because of the garter stitch blocks and the built in ribbing sections, this neck warmer is thick and cushy—perfect for layering at the neck under an outer garment. Work it up with 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn for the shorter muffler length as shown or use 3 skeins for a longer scarf length that you can loop around. Either way, this will knit up fast; the pattern is easily memorized with while still having enough going on to be interesting to knit.

For a matched set (great for a gift!) see the BrainWaves Cap pattern, also available in my Ravelry shop.

This pattern is appropriate for beginners but interesting enough for intermediate and expert knitters as well (i.e., perfect Netflix or traveling knitting, if you know what I mean).

Instructions are given in both charted and written forms.

Yarn recommendations: Worsted weight yarn in a solid or slightly tonal color. Medium to light shades will show the pattern best.
