Brambling Hat
The weather cooling in autumn heralds berry picking season and there is nothing more satisfying than foraging for food, even if it involves clambering through scratchy bushes. In the Outer Hebrides, our most plentiful wild berry is the bramble: dark, sweet and juicy, these berries are hard to resist and make a lovely crumble.
In the Northern periphery, felting has traditionally been used to improve the weather- proofing and durability of knitted garments, particularly fishermen’s mittens. A little felting of your hat will keep you just that bit warmer while out berry picking in those cooling Autumn gusts before you scurry off home to make your warming bramble crumble.
Worked in the round.
