This is a lovely project for fall. It’s light enough to wear on cool summer nights also. The lace offers a more feminine type of garment than the same old poncho. Here in southern California, it’s about as heavy as I’d ever need even though we get snow once or twice a year at our elevation.

You will need to know how or learn to k, p, ssk, k2tog, s2kpo, i-cord bo and 3-needle bo. Instructions for all of these, (except k and p) are included. There is an illustration for a guide to assembly.

The lace is charted on a big, easy-to-read chart. All wrong sides are purl. The directions for the chart are written out also, for those who’d rather not use a chart.

The edges of the poncho are seed stitch with an easy to accomplish slit for the i-cord neck edge. The shoulders are seamed with a 3-needle bo, making a strong, neat seam. All in all this is an easy to make poncho garment. It is knitted on size US 10.5/6.5mm, so works quickly with worsted yarn and the lace just sings! The sides are open, but could be seamed below “sleeve” area. The front and back are identical.

You can leave out the lace and work this poncho with the seed stitch edging and stockinette/stocking stitch only. It would be faster and simpler.

On a personal note: Knitting REALLY does help with stress. My husband just had his 3rd stroke (he’s also had a small heart attack and stage 3 esophageal cancer which left him with no stomach). He’s doing well, thankfully, but I don’t know what I’d do without my knitting. Especially since it’s portable! Just like EZ said…“Knit on with confidence and hope through all crises.”
