Bretagne Shawl
Description
The Bretagne shawl is a triangle shawl, with regular increases on one side only, thus creating an asymmetric shape.
A delicate one-stitch cable pattern is worked over the first panel of the shawl and will form a beautiful edge on the front as you wear it. The yarn chosen for this pattern is BC Garn’s Semilla mélange (GOTS 100% wool) which feels soft and comfortable on the skin, yet allows for the delicate details to stand out neatly. The yarn also makes for a very light shawl, so it can easily be worn throughout the year, for example for cool summer evenings as well.
The model shown above measures 120 x 170 cm (47.25 x 67”). If you wish to make it larger, or on the contrary, smaller, you can easily do so by simply adapting the number of repeats of the pattern made, then switching to the final binding once you have reached the desired length.
Needle size & materials:
4 mm (US 6) circular needles, 60 - 80 cm (24-32”) in length
4 markers / tapestry needle
SIZE
One size: 120 x 170 cm (47.25 x 67”)
TENSION/ GAUGE:
10 x 10 cm (4 x 4”) = 21 sts x 28 rows in stockinette stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needle
The gauge and needle size used for this pattern are only an indication and don’t need to fit perfectly. Just make sure that the yarn you have chosen works well with the cable pattern and overall style of the shawl. Preferably swatch the yarn beforehand in order to adjust the needle size, if needed, for the best outcome, especially in regards to the design.
