Brian's Scarf (boyfriend's scarf)
This is a basic “mistake rib” pattern, easily memorized, and easy to modify by adding stitches or length. My then-boyfriend (now husband) lamented that he couldn’t find his scarf. I decided to make him one. He picked the yarn…and Brian’s Scarf was born.
The original was done with Lion Brand Jiffy but I think any bulky weight yarn would work well. Of course, you can use any weight you want…it’s a scarf, after all. I do recommend something that is machine washable, at least, because scarves get icky (especially in Wisconsin in the winter).
I also recommend blocking of some sort as it has a tendency to form to the W/M shape but if you like that sort of thing, then you don’t need to block it.
