Designed to coordinate with the Bridge Walker Hat, these mittens feature a stranded colorwork motif on the cuff that echoes the metal work used in some of Pittsburgh’s bridges and riverside walkways.

These mittens are knit from the cuff up in the round, starting with a hemmed edge. Once the mittens are complete, an optional ribbed lining can be added. The mittens are interchangeable -- i.e., either mitten can be worn on either hand.

To knit this pattern, you need to know how to:

• work in the round,
• join stitches from a cast-on edge with live stitches,
• read and work from a colorwork chart,
• work simple decreases (k2tog) and increases (m1L/m1R),
• place live stitches on waste yarn, and
• pick up stitches (including from the wrong side of knit fabric for optional cuff lining).

The colorwork motif used in the pattern is charted only.

Yarn estimates:
Main color: approximately 150 (170, 205) yds./137 (155.5, 187.5) m
Contrast color: approximately 60 (70, 85) yds./55 (64, 77.5) m
These estimates include the yarn needed for the optional cuff lining.
