Bring on the festive season with these little bundles of brioche! These baubles make for a break in between larger projects, a quick gift for a loved one or a perfect way to make your love of knitting part of your holiday decor.

The pattern includes four bauble styles (plain, cross, diamond and zigzag) in two sizes each (small; 6cm/2.5” diameter, and large; 8cm/3” diameter).

For more details about the baubles, including the inserts, you can see a video on my website.

Materials:

  • Fingering weight yarn in two colours, 10g of each colour is sufficient to make one large and one small bauble.
  • 2.25mm/US 1 double pointed needles or circular needles as preferred for small circumference knitting in the round.
  • Plastic or polystyrene bauble casings with 6cm/2.5” diameter for the small baubles and 8cm/3” diameter for the large baubles.
  • Stitch marker to mark the beginning of a round.
  • Locking stitch marker or cable needle.
  • Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Gauge:
Measuring gauge is difficult, given the shape of the objects. The large plain bauble (diameter 8cm/3”, circumference 25cm/10”) has 64 stitches around the circumference, while the small plain bauble (diameter 6cm/2.5”, circumference 19cm/7.5”) has 48 stitches around the circumference.

The pattern has both written instructions and charts. Stitch abbreviations and chart symbols are based on those developed by Nancy Marchant.
