My initial inspiration for the Brioche Check Hat was a frosty cold morning here in Indiana, when we were in a deep freeze and icicles hung from every corner of the house. There was a blanket of snow on the ground, and the air and sky had a cool grey hue. The drips from the icicles made a dotted check pattern on the ground, and an idea started to form. I truly love a hat that can be worn two ways and decided that brioche would be the best and most interesting way to capture these icy colors and still look good on both sides. The hat is completely reversable and can be worn with mostly white or mostly grey showing, depending on your mood. When worn on the predominantly white side, it reminds me of those icicles hanging and dripping down into the snow below. The rib start was knit using the opposite colors, so that when it is folded up when worn, the brioche ribs match the ribs of the shaped crown. I can’t wait for the winter weather so I can wear the super cozy Brioche Check Hat.
