Briochebubbles Hat
Enjoy -50% off!
Briochebubbles Hat is a quick and easy two-color brioche hat with brim to crown construction. Starting with the two-color brioche brim, which melts perfectly into the main body, where the background for the brioche bubbles is knit in two-color garter stitch: every other round in main color and every other round in contrasting color, and ending with the crown. Complete with a pompom that is reminiscent of a honey ball (the pompom is always optional).
Your color choices will have a big impact on the design. Briochebubbles Hat is inspired by my love for eye-catching color and the amazing Malabrigo Rios yarn. I invite you to join me in this beautiful, warm brioche knitting world.
The hat can be slightly resized using different yarn and needles. It’s a fast and rewarding knit, with a simple pattern repeat and lots of texture, and due to the DK or worsted weight yarn can be almost completed in one day.
This beanie is an average adult size version (if you want a shorter or bigger size – do more or fewer sections, more rounds (brioche plain rounds) or use larger needles. The pattern size matches the petrol blue (Reflecting Pool) and orange (Sunset) beanie shown.
YARN:
Yarn: Malabrigo Rios (worsted weight), 192 meters (210 yards)/100 grams (3.53 ounces), 100% merino wool
MC yarn – Reflecting Pool (133); CC yarn – Sunset (096). Or use any other DK or worsted weight yarn.
YARN CONSUMPTION: 55 grams (1.9 ounces) of each color, MC and CC. My beanie weighs exactly 110 gr/3.8oz (including pompom).
NEEDLES: 40cm (16”) circular needle or DPNs (double pointed needles) in US 2 ½ /3.00mm for ribbing and US 4/3.5mm for pattern.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate brioche.
Two - color brioche.
FINISHED SIZE: average women’s size (beanie in the picture):
Depth – 23cm (9“) (without pompom)
Circ - 44cm (17.5“) Fits head about 57cm (22“)
Measurements taken un-blocked. Hats are shown on a 57cm / 22.5” head circumference.
OTHER TOOLS: tapestry needle; scissors; round counter; stitch marker (if needed) for marking the beginning of the round.
GAUGE: 22 sts x 27 rows = 10cm / 4“ in two-color brioche stitch (knitted 3.5mm / US 4 needles)
Needle sizes are recommendations only. Always use needle size necessary to achieve given gauge (to save your time).
My personal knitting tension is tight. If yours isn’t, consider using perhaps 2.50mm (US 1 ½) needles, especially for ribbing part.
And thank you my dear test knitters. Without you, this pattern isn’t here ….
