BriocheWings Shawl
And it’s totally off! -50%!!
If you’re looking for a really exciting knit, sprinkled with a little challenge, then BriocheWings Shawl is your next project. BriocheWings Shawl uses the same motif as my Friendland Blanket.
This knit is a reversible and elegant design. Set off your favorite colorful or variegated yarn on one side with contrasting background color on the other side. The result is like two different shawls because the fabric is completely reversible. It’s a lovely modern shawl, and is an interesting and pleasant knit that is sure to be a staple in your wardrobe. Perfect for your next snowy adventure, it is as enjoyable to knit as it is to wear.
The BriocheWings Shawlis is a classic top-down shawl, which is worked in one piece and consists of 2 mirror faced triangle sections (sections are not identical), with increases in the center as well as along the side edges. For brioche newbies, the BriocheWings Shawl could be your first brioche shawl, as the pattern is filled with detailed explanations and lots of video links that show all the stitches and helpful hints. It’s also pleasant to knit since there is no need to count the stitches on every row.
The shawl will look great in most yarn weights. Gauge is not so crucial for this design, but if yours differs from the pattern gauge, the dimensions of your shawl will be different as well.
YARN (sample shawl shown on page 1):
Aade yarn (8/3), (100% wool, Solid),
100 gr (3.53 oz) - 267 m (292 yds)
Yarn hanks weight between 150 gr/ 5.25 oz. – 300 gr / 10.5 oz. Aade is our local lambswool yarn.
YARN CONSUMPTION:
MC yarn: approx. 1 skeins (200 gr / 7.06 oz - 534 m / 584 yds) Aade yarn colorway White
CC yarn: approx. 1 skeins (190 gr / 6.70 oz – 507 m / 555 yds) Aade yarn colorway Green.
Or use any other DK weight yarn. Sample shawl weighs approx. 390 gr / 13.75 oz.
Note that if you use different weight yarn or different needle size, the yardage, weight and dimensions of your blanket may differ from mine.
SKILL LEVEL: Adventurous Beginner.
You should be familiar with two-color brioche knitting (slipped stitches worked in conjunction with yarn overs).
NEEDLES:
4.00mm (US 6), 100 cm (40“) circular needle, or size needed to get right gauge.
(Use a long circular needle to accommodate a large number of stitches.)
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Wingspan: Approx. 194 cm / 76“
Depth at widest point: Approx. 85 cm / 33.5“
Measurements taken from relaxed fabric after blocking.
OTHER TOOLS:
Tapestry needle; scissors; stitch markers; row counter (recommended); blocking tools
GAUGE:
16 sts x 21 rows = 10 cm / 4“ in two-color brioche stitch pattern after blocking
Needle sizes are recommendations only. Always use the needle size necessary to achieve given gauge (My personal knitting tension is tight).
TECHNIQUES USED:
brioche back and forth, brioche decreases/increases (brLsl dec, brRsl dec, brkyobrk, brk1, brp1, sl1yo). Stretchy Bind off (or the I-Cord Bind off).
Previous experience working Basic two-color brioche is not required, but it is recommended.
And thank you again my dear test knitters. Without you, my testing guys, this pattern isn’t here ….
