Broken Rib Scarf
Most new knitters seem relieved and surprised that there are only two stitches to master when learning to knit: knit and purl. For their first project, many choose to make a simple garter stitch scarf, which means they knit every row. There is nothing wrong with making such a scarf, but since this first project is usually a way to practice this new skill, why not select a pattern with both knits and purls? Thus, for a confident beginner, I suggest your first project can easily be this Broken Rib Scarf.
