The Brooke Bonnet is a worsted-weight baby bonnet that coordinates with my existing patterns, the Brooktondale Hat and Brooktondale Cowl. Consider making a coordinating set of hats and bonnets for the family, or for mama and baby. Slipped stitches are lifted in subsequent rows to create a lattice-like texture. This texture shows off solid, speckled or tonal yarns (such as the Malabrigo Rios used for the sample) beautifully.

To knit this bonnet, knitters will need to know how to cast on, knit and purl, slip stitches and pick them up in later rows (stitch guides are given for all of the specialty stitches), work flat and in the round, and work k2tog decreases. The smaller sized bonnets use minimal yarn, so this is also a great stashbuster project. Most knitters will be able to finish their bonnet in just a couple nights of knitting, making this an excellent shower gift.

Malabrigo Rios 100% Superwash Merino Wool; 210 yd/192 m per 100g skein - RIO703 Almond Blossom, 1 skein (6-9 month size, pictured, used 39g or approx. 82 yds)

US #8 / 5.0 mm circular needle, 16-inch and set of DPNs

Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle

GAUGE 21 sts / 30 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette stitch

SIZING Preemie (newborn, 0-3 mos, 6-9 mos, 12-18 mos, child) measures 9 (11, 13, 15, 17, 19) inches. Sizes given are the distance around the face, measured from the bottom of the chin.
