Brother Hat
A hat designed for the brothers in your life; be they true siblings or those who have earned the title by being fellow travellers through life. It is designed for fingering yarn held double on a simple knit/purl pattern that a man will wear but not just ribbing for once. The pattern is reduced neatly on the crown for cool effect and to keep it interesting to knit.
This hat is also available as part of a great value ebook - The hat family, a collection of hats for the whole family.
Yarn choices
Any wool or acrylic fingering yarn held double should be fine for this one. This gives a warm fabric with an attractive drape without a great deal of weight. You could also use a sportweight or DK yarn held single to achieve gauge and have a slightly weightier, firmer fabric (many sport and DK yarns have a suggested stitch gauge the same as that given in the pattern - just check that your row gauge is not wildly different). Testers used a mix of both approaches with attractive results. My sample was knit with the DyeforWool yarn held double.
Skills
This is a very easy hat using only knit and purl stitches. Ability to knit in the round on dpns or a circular needle is assumed.
