This women’s slightly A-line pullover tunic is worked from the bottom hem up to the armholes in one piece. There is subtle shaping from the hem to the waist using gusset decreases incorporated into the pattern. The top of the garment, from the armholes up, is worked back and forth to complete the armhole and neckline shaping. The top features a rounded neckline, edged with simple garter stitch to match the hems and cuffs. The long sleeves are slightly bell-shaped at the wrist, and are worked in the round up to the underarm. The sleeve cap is then worked and the sleeves are sewn into the garment.

If substituting yarns, choose a fingering-weight yarn with little to no halo and a nice drape. You will need 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5) skeins needed to knit pattern as written. Sample is knit in size 37 1/4” and worn with 1/2” positive ease.

Inspiration: Brynhild appears in several forms throughout Old Norse legends. She is a powerful warrior princess in multiple guises, and in many stories also has supernatural powers; some align her with the Valkyrie legends as well. Retold in later German and French tales, her name is still found throughout place-names in both of these regions today.

NOTE: For the sleeves, be sure to maintain the sleeves in reverse stockinette (other than the cable chart) as you work them - both in the round AND back and forth. There was some confusion over this set of instructions as you are working the transition from Chart B1 to B2:

On the next round, K1, M1R, knit to marker, SM, work next chart rows as established between markers, SM, knit to 2 sts before end of round, M1L, K1. 2 sts increased.

You will K1, M1R, then work as established (i.e., in reverse stockinette, so purling all sts to the next marker), SM, work the chart rows, SM, work in reverse stockinette to 2 sts before end of round, M1L and K1. This will maintain a 2-stitch “seam” on the underside of the sleeve.
