The Burren is a beautiful area in Ireland characterised by an ancient limestone landscape, and is visible across the sea from the Aran Islands, Ireland. This chunky knit hat is perfect for coping with the strong Atlantic winds!

As a knitter from the Aran Islands, I love adapting the Aran style to suit modern knitters. Here, I have taken a classic Aran style cable pattern and adapted the motif to work it in the round, on one size of circular needle. The finished hat is seamless, with the cables flowing from brim to crown without interruption.

The hat is seamless, as it is knit in the round, and is super soft and comfortable to wear. The beanie measures around 18 inches (47 cm) in circumference (flat, unworn) and 8 inches/21cm in height from brim to crown, but is easy to adjust in width and length. The cabling pattern is not overly complicated; working a 8 stitch and 8 row repeat - I would consider this a pattern suitable for improving and intermediate knitters.

Only one skein of yarn is required to knit this cosy cabled beanie, the chunky companion to the Aran/worsted weight Burren Beanie.
