Busy Bee Baby Afghan
This sunny afghan designed by Billie Birchfield of Cloverdale, CA, is sure to excite the little one in your life. Stitched with a bright yellow yarn and accented with friendly bumblebees, this adorable afghan uses a variety of interesting stitches.
Skill Level: Rated INTERMEDIATE
Design and Construction Details:
The afghan body is made of 3 different blocks, separated by 2 cables, with a triangular border (similar to prairie points). The center block features a honeycomb pattern, and later knitted bees are appliqued on, with wings embroidered to finish. The top border is knit after the blocks are completed, then the bottom and side borders are added by picking up stitches. For a finishing touch, ribbons are woven through eyelets in Row 3 of the border triangles, and tied on each corner in bows.
Bee bodies are knitted with alternating rows of black and yellow, similar to I-cord, on double-pointed needles, and only take 9 rows to complete each one. Very cute!
