I wanted to showcase two different ways that slip stitches can be used. The butterfly stitch slips stitches with the yarn held to the right side of the work, aiming for floats located in the front. These floats are then gathered up in one row to make the whisker or butterfly design. The faux cable pattern on the pillow back uses slip stitches to mimic the movement of more stitches. Only one stitch is cabled (the slipped stitch which becomes elongated), but from a distance it looks as though the pattern is a true cable. These cables are flatter than true cables, but just as interesting to look at.

Give these two stitch patterns a try while making a cozy pillow for your reading nook or couch!
