Butterick's Torchon Scarf
Back in the day, torchon lace was popular for its geometric shapes and its durability. Several knitting patterns in the 1890s sought to mimic this lace. This reversible knitting pattern originally was an edging but, with bigger yarn and needles, it makes a nice scarf.
This pattern demanded my full attention. I’ve organized the instructions to make them as easy to work as possible.
The swatch is 7 inches at its widest at gauge but gauge is up to you.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, ktbl, purl, YO, kf&b, k2tog, SSK, k3tog, p3tog, p2tog, p2tog tbl and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
70 yards of Wool of the Andes Sport Weight yarn will make 10 inches of this scarf at gauge.
