From Comforts of Home: Choose from a variety of stitch patterns for this tailored cushion--smooth stockinette stitch, or a textured seed stitch, rib stitch, or check stitch. And there’s nothing stopping you from trying other simple stitch patterns, like garter sttich, other rib stitch variations or even reverse stockinette stitch. But be sure to use a good quality yarn--the better the yarn, the better the finish. The pattern calls for a merino wool, but alpaca or cashmere are also perfect for this project. For a more casual or rustic environment, you could try a tweedy linen or string. A group of cushions in different stitches but the same yarn and color would look good on a bed, or in different yarn textures on a couch. Sew on beautifully simple natural mother of pearl buttons in ivory or charcoal to add the perfect finish. Or, hunt for wonderful individual buttons in secondhand shops or flea markets.
