Cable for One
The Cable for One beanie is knit in the round, using one size of circular needles (US10; or 6mm). This pattern would suit improver knitters who would like to try their hand at simple colourwork, or experienced knitters in need of a quick (but not boring!) knit. The hat is quick to knit, but the single cable keeps each row interesting.
This hat was written for Drops Andes yarn; but should give a good result with a similar chunky yarn. One 100g skein should be enough for one hat, I would suggest a requirement of 95 metres/105 yards of yarn, for the main colour; only a small amount of contrast colour (20m/25 yards) is needed. Two skeins will be plenty to create two hats. A cable needle will also make the pattern easy to work for beginners, but experienced knitters can do without it. Also required are a stitch marker (to show the beginning of the row), and a knitter’s sewing needle, for weaving in the ends when you are finished. You may wish to switch to DPNs as the stitches decrease towards the crown, but they are not strictly necessary.
The hat is seamless, as it is knit in the round, and is super soft and comfortable to wear! This hat is sized to suit an adult head, and measures around 18 inches/46 cm in circumference (unworn). From brim to crown it measures 8 inches/21 cm unworn. Instructions are given on how to create a longer hat, by working more repeats of the cable pattern. Instructions are also included on how to create a variation of the hat without the contrast brim (as seen in the black and neon green hat pictured after the navy blue and red hats above).
