Cabled Double Eyelet Beret
This is a feminine beret that goes well with casual and slightly dressier outfits. It can be made from a warm wool or a softer, fancier alpaca silk. The hat is the picture was made using Malabrigo Worsted in color Polar Morn, but it has been made using Cascade 220 Superwash (which yields a smaller hat) and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino.
This hat will stretch and fits heads from 19” to 22”. It uses size 6 (4 mm) and size 8 (5 mm) 16” circular needles, and size 8 double point needles to finish. There are instructions for a slightly larger hat using larger needles, size 7 (4.5 mm) and size 9 (5.5 mm) 16” and size 9 double point needles.
Edit 2025: I’ve added pictures of new hats made with new yarn. From comments I’ve seen, I believe the hat does not do well with yarns that have a tight twist (I tested this myself). I would steer clear of lighter worsted weight yarns, and user heavier worsted or Aran weight. My new samples are absolutely lovely, and much more slouchy using size US 7 and US 9 needles.
