Adorable hat with an optional ruffle. Cute worked in a striped yarn or with the brim and the cabled parts of the hat in different colors or all the same. Workable with one ball of Ty-Dy Wool or one skein of Cascade 220. (Men’s size hat with a ruffle may require more than one skein.)

I recommend a circular needle for the ruffle and the body of the hat, and double pointed needles for closing the top of the hat. Cables are simple throughout the body of the hat and slightly different(not harder!) at the close of the hat, and perfect for someone just learning the cabling process.
