Cabot Cowl
The cowl is knitted in the round on a circular needle. The large cables are decorated with slip stitch chains in the centre. If you lose your place in the stitch pattern and are not sure how many rnds have been worked since the last cable cross, use a spare needle to help you find out. Find a little hollow at the base of the cable cross; insert your spare needle into this hollow straight up through the back of your knitting, and take it out under the working needle. Pull it gently towards you to expose the horizontal floats resting atop the spare needle and count them. The first float from the bottom is always your cable cross; the remainder of the floats is the number of rounds worked after the cross.
