cachoeira
Tradition meets technology in this sensuously slinky shawl. Start with a traditional lace pattern and pair it with a modern shape, a bit of bling, and a high tech yarn for a decadently sparkly, radiant, swingy shawl. Add beaded fringe for the ultimate indulgence. The lace pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter or adventurous beginner.
Sizes: one size 15¾” wide x 75” long (40 x 190 cm), not including fringe; fringe adds approximately 16” (8” each end).
Yarn: Fingering weight, approximately 1100 yards
Shown in Bellatrista Milk in arctic ice, 16/4 fingering weight, 400 m (437 yds) / 100 g, 3 skeins.
Gauge: 26 sts & 28 rows / 4” (10 cm) in pattern after blocking on US 2½-6 (3mm-4mm) or size needed to get gauge. Gauge is not critical for this project but a different gauge may change size and have different yarn requirements.
Notions: Approx. 650 size 8 Miyuki Delica silver-lined glass beads = 500 for shawl + 150 for fringe (if substituting: beads should slide freely on yarn held doubled), tiny crochet hook (1mm) for placing beads, medium-sized crochet hook for placing fringe
Skill level: cachoeira is suitable for an intermediate knitter or adventurous beginner. The lace pattern is charted and written and it is not hard to memorize once it is established. The beaded twisted fringe takes a bit of time but is well worth the effort.
