Cafe in New York Infinity Scarf
This pattern came into being after seeing a chic woman wearing a chic scarf sitting at an outdoor table at a cafe in New York. It is an “infinity” scarf because instead of being just a long rectangle, the ends of the scarf are grafted or seamed to create a long “O” shape which can be looped around the neck.
The scarf has a fun pattern of bright stripes alternating with bold blocks of color. This is a great opportunity to use vivid colors, but would also look great with a sophisticated mix of neutrals.
Difficulty: Beginner
The scarf is worked flat in stockinette stitch as a long rectangle. You can start with a standard cast-on and seam the ends (easier), or you can start with a provisional cast-on and use the Kitchener stitch to graft the ends for a seamless appearance (more challenging).
Yarn selection:
Rowan Kidsilk Haze was used for the sample; this is a lace-weight yarn with a brushed, fuzzy finish that creates a “halo” of the mohair. Similar yarns which may be substituted to achieve the same effect are listed below. A light and airy texture can also be achieved using fingering-weight yarn with large enough needles.
Pattern support: Designer email is included in the pattern in case you run into questions or problems.
The Kidsilk Haze colors used for the sample are Jelly, Blushes, and Peacock.
Substitutes for Rowan Kidsilk Haze include GGH Kidseda, Stacy Charles Luna Effects, Fleece Artist Zambezi, Valley Yarns Southampton, Mango Moon Capra Too, Lana Grossa Silkhair, Adriafil KidSeta, Hedgehog Fibres Kidsilk Lace, Willow and Lark Plume, Lion Brand LB Collection Silk Mohair, Katia Silk Mohair, Plymouth Yarn Kid Gloss, Drops Kid-silk, Knit Picks Aloft, and a number of others.
