NOTE: this shawl is worked in knitting and crochet. There isn’t a category for knit & crochet combined in Ravelry, so it’s currently placed in the knitting category.

Pattern available Saturday, May 18th, 2024

There’s a long history with Sontag shawls. These shawls were functional, easy to wear and secures well when wrapped and tied at the waist. Traditionally, Sontags are narrow triangle shawls. CAKE & CAFFEINE features a similar generous wingspan, but in a crescent shape. The pattern comes in two sizes: a small shawlette/shoulder wrap and a large wrap that can fully cover the torso.

Cake & Caffeine is worked in three sections. This mixed knit and crochet version starts with a garter fabric, bound off to crochet a fan stitch repeat, finishes with a few more rows of garter stitch knitting before binding off using an I-cord bind-off.

For those who want to make Cake & Caffeine in KNIT only, I’ve written a knit version as stand-alone pattern, with different fabric gauges and features suitable to the character of the design. Please see pattern details for this version for more information.
