About Caleb’s Cabled Hat
A few episodes into watching Critical Role, I knew that I’d found something special that I’d be obsessing over for years to come. Now, at least four years later, I still laugh, cry, and cheer with the Critical Role team each week. The stories that the players weave together range from funny to devastating and I find myself attached to the characters in the same way I would be attached to those in a long series of books; never wanting the stories to end. I find myself wanting to create my own things based on their world just to extend it that much more. And with that motivation, I have created my first Critical Role-inspired design, “Caleb’s Cabled Hat”.

When we first meet Caleb Widogast of Critical Role’s The Mighty Nein, we see a highly intelligent, highly dirty wizard who’s preoccupied with books and learning. He’s closed off and has a one-track mind to learn as much as he can about controlling time. As we get to know him, we find that he’s terrified of fire and charmingly awkward!

This hat design contains structured lattice cables inspired by Caleb’s calculated thinking, which blend into hourglass-and-fire-inspired cable motifs that make for a meticulous knit. The result is a beautiful mix of geometric and organic cables that meet at the crown for a hat that is fit to cover the complex mind of our favorite wizard.

Warning! The large cable repeat on this hat takes concentration (40 stitches wide for the S/M and 56 stitches wide for the M/L) and may not be enjoyable for every knitter, so I thought I’d warn you.

CRIT KNITS
This design is part of Crit Knits, a collection of 8 knitwear designs by myself and the awesome Christy Furlan.

Each of the 8 designs is inspired by a member of the Mighty Nein from Critical Role, Campaign 2 and uses stunning yarn from Critical Sheep, to layer on even more D&D fun.

The remaining 6 Crit Knits patterns will be released in pairs throughout the next year (give or take).

Follow myself and Christy on Instagram for more Crit Knits updates and releases.

Each pattern in the collection contains a coupon code for an additional Mighty Nein pattern, so if you’d also like to knit a Nott the Brave-inspired, roguish cowl, check out: A Knit For Nott, designed by Christy Furlan.

Coupon code for A Knit for Nott is available on the last page of the Caleb’s Cabled Hat pattern.
