This pattern was originally published as Close Knit’s contribution to the 2020 Rose City Yarn Crawl in Portland, Oregon. The pattern is also part of the 2020 Pattern Collection: Birds of the Pacific Northwest.

My Portland garden is part of the territory of an Anna’s Hummingbird, whose scratchy song we hear year round. Sometimes, we also glimpse an iridescent flash of feathers as this curious visitor swoops in to sip nectar from the flowers or give us a quick inspection - always an enthralling experience! The gorgeous speckled coral of the yarn for this project was inspired both by the radiant head and neck feathers of this winged acrobat, and by one of its favorite flowers, the Campsis radicans or Trumpet Vine. Imagine wearing this delicate beret in a vibrant and luscious Oregon garden while watching the hummingbirds’ aerial dance.
