Candide was a simple man who, through his misadventures, lived a dozen different lives in a dozen “best of all possible worlds”. You might even say he tried on different lives the way one might try on different hats. Like this hat. Try it on. ;o)

Candide the hat is a simple hat that allows you to remain an optimist through and through. The variations of colors and yarns that you can choose for this hat give it tons of different looks. I can’t wait to see what you choose for yours!

This hat was knit with BOTH a fingering weight (Heritage) and a very light DK (Silky Wool).

The sizes indicated are suggested head circumference, not final hat measurements. If gauge is obtained, the final hat circumferences will be 17.5” (19”, 21”).

Gauge was measured as 20sts/4” in the round, with one strand of each of your fingering weight and DK/sport weight yarn held together. Silky Wool is a light DK, and in this case, may have acted more like a sport weight instead of a DK. Some testers found this gauge hard to obtain with heavier DK weights. Their hats were slightly larger, and a little slouchier. If you want to guarantee a beanie shape, sport or heavy fingering weight yarns are suggested as the CC instead of a DK. :o)

The yardages are combined for both the fingering weight and the DK/Sport weight. The smallest size needs approximately 170yds fingering, and 70 yds DK/Sport. The largest was found to need about 220yds fingering, and 110yds DK/sport.

This pattern has been test knitted.
