Candlewick Cardigan
The Candlewick Cardigan is made to be a light layer to go over dresses and high waisted trousers. Made with Mondim yarn – which is a fingering weight yarn (from https://www.unwindandknit.com ) with excellent stitch definition to make the lace pop, the cardigan is perfect for those moment when a little extra warmth is needed. The name is from the lace pattern, which to me, looks like candles burning brightly!
The Candlewick Cardigan is started at the top back yoke, the shoulders and neck are shaped with short rows. It is then knit down with armhole shaping and placed on hold while the fronts are worked. Each front is picked up along the shoulder and worked with short rows to shape the shoulders, then neck shaping to form the V-neck. Armhole shaping is added and then the two fronts and back are joined to make the body. The body is worked in stockinette for a small section to give a cropped length cardy (but you can easily add more length to the cardy at this point if you prefer), then the lace section is worked. On completion of the lace, a twisted rib hem finishes the body. The sleeves are picked up around the armholes and a short row sleeve cap is worked, before decreases to shape the sleeve. The sleeves are a ¾ length, but this can be adjusted for personal preferences. Finally, all the way around the neck and button bands is picked up and worked as one, before binding off. Then your Candlewick Cardigan is ready to enjoy!
