Candy cake
This festive crochet candy cake is a true eye-catcher for birthdays or celebrations. Created in collaboration with primary school children, the cheerful design is a fun explosion of color and sweet details. The cake is built around 3 stacked Styrofoam dummies and decorated with handmade lollipops, candy, gum balls, ice cream cones, hearts, and bunting. A great stash-busting project full of joy and creativity!
Size Options
The cake consists of 3 stacked layers:
Bottom layer: Ø 25 cm × 10 cm
Middle layer: Ø 20 cm × 10 cm
Top layer: Ø 15 cm × 7 cm
Total height: approx. 30 cm (excluding decorations)
The size is based on standard Styrofoam dummies, but can be adjusted by changing yarn, hook, or dummy dimensions.
Materials
Yarn: Cotton crochet yarn
2 balls each of red, blue, yellow, green
3 balls of orange
1–2 balls each of pink, fuchsia, white, light brown, silver sparkle
Hook: 3 mm
Other supplies:
Styrofoam cake dummies (Ø 25 cm, 20 cm, 15 cm)
Lollipop or cake pop sticks
Wooden beads (Ø 20 mm), seed beads, letter beads
Fiberfill stuffing
Glue, scissors, darning needle
Yarn Requirements
Approx. 12–14 balls total, depending on color variation and how full you decorate
Silver sparkle yarn is used for icing accents and lettering
Great project for using up scraps and leftovers
