Cannon Beach Mitts
The Cannon Beach Mitts are knit in the round from the top down (no upside down birds!). They feature two slip stitch patterns that evoke seagulls and waves. Only one color is worked per round.
These mitts were designed to coordinate with the Cannon Beach Cowl. I highly recommend using a sticky, fluffy wool. Sample shown in Malabrigo Merino Worsted (purple). Stitch detail also shown in Woolfolk FÅR (blue/gray) and Malabrigo Rios (apple green/purple).
You’ll need 40 yards of MC, 15 yards of CC.
Because of the stitch count of the seagull and wave patterns, sizing is accomplished by changing needle size rather than stitch count. Finished mitts are 7 inches long, 7.5 inches around at the palm, and will stretch to fit an 8 inch palm.
Coordinating Cannon Beach Cowl pattern is also available. You may purchase either pattern separately or together in the Cannon Beach Accessories Collection ebook. If you’re knitting both, I suggest knitting the cowl first, where it’s easier to get into the rhythm of the stitch patterns.
Thanks to tech editor Amanda Woodruff, test knitter Ann Berg, and model Erin Hocraffer.
