Canyonville
This is a very interesting pattern in twisted traveling stitches.
From American Portraits: “For any coast-to-coast traveler of the USA, the images will linger long after the wheels have stopped turning. These ‘American Portraits’ are based on eight of many such images which have come into my mind following the Fall ’93 Knitting Across America tour. … An overnight stop in Canyonville, Oregon, left the memory of textured tree bark in a dense forest.”
Summary: Canyonville is a round-necked pullover featuring an allover intense cabling pattern of concentric, hourglass figures, giving the appearance of tree bark knots. he hemline, cuff and neckline edges are done in a cable rib using twisted stitches on a reverse Stockinette stitch background. The neckband is picked up from the body and worked onwards. The body is knit in separate pieces to be joined in the finishing stages. The drop-shoulder sleeves are worked upwards from the cuff.
Skills needed: cable knitting, pick-up stitches and increase and decrease in pattern.
