Caragh /car-ah/ is an Irish girls’ name. Caragh means friend. This shawl is about the connections we make through knitting. It’s about people we meet on our knitting journey. People who share the same passion for yarn. People who love making things with yarn and two sticks. We meet at yarn shops, fiber festivals, retreats, or just knitting forums. It doesn’t matter where in the world we are from, what our backgrounds or personalities are. We learn from each other, share ideas, get encouragement, and we help each other. And sometimes we become good friends. And those friendships are very special!

Caragh is the shawl, where two yarns meet and become friends through easy stitches. Garter stitch, eyelets, and slip stitches create an airy, drapey fabric. The shawl is an asymmetrical triangular shape, knitted sideways. The pattern can be worked from written instructions or charts.

Yarn: Keenan Hand Dyed Yarn Superwash Sock Yarn
(75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon, 463 yds/100g)

Purple/green sample:

• MC - 1 skein of Botanic Hydrangea
• CC - 1 skein of Dragonfly

Blue/white sample:

• MC - 1 skein of Living A Boy’s Adventure Tale
• CC - 1 skein of Fermanagh Walk

Or any similar fingering weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors

Needles: US #5 / 3.75 mm circular needles (or as required to get the gauge)

Notions: darning needle, removable marker.

Gauge: 18 sts x 35 rows = 4” in garter stitch

Sizing: wingspan 90”, depth 27” (wet blocked and relaxed)

Skills: knit, kfb, slip, yo, k2tog, picot bind off(explained)

Instructions are available in two formats:

• compact (4 pages, 11 pt)

• large print (11 pages, 20 pt), the version with big letters for those who use portable devices like tablets and e-readers; also for those knitters who have difficulties reading small font on paper.
