When the spring is close, in the garden the big grayish green plants of artichokes grow rapidly. Soon the flowers buds turn visible, some of them green, some of them dark purple. In any supermarket or open market the tables are full of these pinecone-shaped veggies. The ones for sale are bigger than my hand and usually sold separately, per piece. They are an important element in the Mediterranean kitchen, and they have an important role in the traditional Easter table.
Artichoke symbolism is rich and layered, representing hope, peace, prosperity, and a prosperous future, due to its tender heart protected by tough outer leaves, symbolizing building inner strength and connection.

The yoke of the Carciofo sweater shows the artichoke plant with its flowers. A top down seamless construction is easy to try on to get the perfect fit and length.
The back neck is shaped with German short rows. The colorwork is worked from the chart and additional plain rnds can be added for better fit. After separating the sleeve sts, the body is knit in the round to the hem. The sleeves are worked last. Hem and cuffs are worked in the contrasting color.
