Stitch pattern was the inspiration here. I came across the Expanding Feather and Fan Lace pattern in a Vogue Knitting Stitchionary some years ago, and thought, “What can I do with this?” I started playing around with cape or poncho ideas. For the Carisma cape, I modified the lace to reduce, rather than expand, and changed some of the stitch counts. Yes, that does make for a lot of stitches in the cast on, but I love that the rows get easier and faster as you go, plus you can see those wonderful scalloped edges quickly take shape.
