Carpathian Roses Jacket
From the book: “The main pattern in this model comes from traditional embroideries of Transylvania, recorded before the First World War but certainly even older.”
“The jacket is knitted in the round to the underarm and then the front and back are worked back and forth. The center front is cut open afterwards. the pattern is knitted in red and black and the other colors are later embroidered with duplicate stitch. The collar and cuffs are knitted in garter stitch and then chain stitch crocheted frills are worked into the garter stitch ridges.”
- This sweater features a shaped waist and set in sleeves. It is offered in three sizes ranging from 39.75 inches (101cm) to 44.5 inches (113cm).
- Double pointed needles and short and long circular needles in all sizes, or as required to get gauge, are needed. Straight needles for the portions knit back and forth are optional. A crochet hook US size B (2.5mm) is also needed for the textured collar and cuffs. A tapestry needle will be used for the duplicate stitch accents.
- A 19.75 to 21.5 (50-55cm) separating zipper is required. US knitters who only have access to 22 inch zippers may need to adjust the length of the sweater to compensate.
- Full color charts show the color work and shaping.
- Five colors of yarn are required: 300-400g of red(6013), 300-350g of black(6053) and 50g each of three accent colors; green(6089), blue(6082) and ochre(6093).
