Carver Scarf
In 2014, I had the opportunity to visit Imperial Stock Ranch and meet its owners, Dan and Jeanne Carver. Dan is the quieter of the pair — a rancher with an environmentalist’s heart — while Jeanne is a firecracker with boundless energy. Together with family and staff, they put an astounding amount of hard work into nourishing their animals and land.
I was delighted when my LYS later began carrying Tracie Too, Imperial Yarn’s sportweight offering. This light and lofty scarf uses just one skein and can be blocked with rippling edges (as shown), or with straighter lines for a unisex look.
Tracie Too is a “late bloomer” in a quite literal sense — when washed and blocked, the yarn transforms beautifully. Stitches plump up and even out, creating a wonderful wooly fabric.
This pattern contains both fully charted and written directions.
Recommended Yarn:
Imperial Yarns Tracie Too, one skein — 100% Columbia wool — 395 yds (361m) to 113 g. Shown in colorway Wild Rye. Should you wish to substitute, you will need approximately 380 yds (347 m) of sportweight or light DK yarn.
Sizing:
6” (15 cm) wide and 71” (180 cm) long
Gauge:
24 sts and 34 rows to 4” (10 cm) in cable pattern, washed and blocked.
Needles:
US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm) needles
PLEASE NOTE: I knit very tightly. I actually used US 5 (3.75 mm) and US 6 (4 mm) needles to achieve this gauge, but knitters who are typically “on gauge” will likely wish to use US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm) needles. Very loose knitters will likely wish to use US 3 (3.25 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm) needles. Changes in gauge will affect finished size and amount of yarn used.
Other Materials:
Cable needle, tapestry needle
