When I went to Ohio to visit her, I offered to take her little white terrier, Casey, home to New Jersey with me until Grandmother was in better health. Casey came to me wearing an orange acrylic sweater (it helped my grandmother, whose eyesight is poor, see her against her pale carpet). After a romp in the snow, Casey’s sweater was soaked and I decided to maker her a new-and-improved one out of wool. This sweater was meant for a small dog, but I’ve resized it to fit medium-size and larger breeds as well. Measure your dog before you start to make sure the sweater will fit when it’s finished. Even better, knit the sweater on circular needles and try it on the dog from time to time, adding more or fewer rows of stockinette stitch to ensure a proper fit. At its core, this is a simple stockinette stitch dog sweater. You can make the stripe sequence as complicated or as easy as you like. Switching colors on RS rows and carrying CC behind the RS reduces the number of yarn ends to weave in.”
